School of Geology

The Faculty of Earth Sciences was the first faculty established at Damghan University, launching its academic programs in October 1992. Today, it offers two undergraduate degree programs in Geology and Geography, along with seven master’s specializations: Tectonics, Stratigraphy and Paleontology, Economic Geology, Petrology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Planning, and Mineralogy and Industrial Rocks.
Career Opportunities
Geology plays a vital role worldwide, underpinning sectors such as the economy, industry, agriculture, and civil development. Graduates in this field have access to a wide range of professional opportunities, as geological expertise is essential in almost every civil engineering project. In Iran, where oil, gas, and mineral resources form a major part of the national economy, geologists are at the forefront of resource exploration and extraction. Specialists in hydrogeology also play a key role in managing water resources, a matter of growing importance in times of drought. While the discipline offers strong career prospects, students should be aware that some geological work requires extended field activities and stays in field camps, which can be physically demanding.
The Department of Geological Sciences seeks to answer some of the fundamental questions in earth science.
Department of Geography
Geography provides a unique spatial perspective that seeks to explain patterns of differences and commonality across the human and natural environmen.
The Faculty of Earth Sciences is home to 13 specialized laboratories and workshops, designed to provide hands-on training and support advanced research:
• Microscopy Laboratory
• Sedimentology Laboratory
• Physical Geology Laboratory
• Photogeology and Mapping Laboratory
• Paleontology Laboratory
• Tectonic Modeling Laboratory
• Instrumental Analysis Laboratory (equipped with XRD, XRF, and ICP-OES systems)
